Descending from two generations of british tailors, Neil Barret became famous for his minimalist, sportswear influenced menswear in the 90s, first as head designer of Prada’s first venture in menswear, then with his eponymous label. Based in Italy since 1990 but extremely british at heart, his tailored, rock’n’roll sportswear has gained a large following among fashionistos and celebrities. Always true to his roots, he took basic rcck staples and fused them with sharp, modern tailoring for his SS12 collection, merging biker jackets and sharp cotton jackets, or creating amazing, new-wave graphics like the ‘‘disheveled chevron’’ print which turns the classic herringbone into an abstract jacquard, or the pied-de-coque that seems to fall off the fabric disappearing into black; one of his strongest collections to date, it plays with proprotions and textures to create the perfect, modern, rock’n’roll wardrobe, that is if you’re of the Bowie, sharp, cool, school of Rock.
